Water Heater
Categories: California House

With such big repairs as fixing the roof and foundation looming ahead of us, I was surprised at how much satisfaction was derived from replacing the water heater blanket this weekend.
You may have read or heard my complaints about how the previous owners of our house were amateurish and/or inept in so many of their repairs and projects around the house. Their attitude was apparently that if three wouldn’t be overkill, and two were recommended, they’d get by with one. Whether you are looking at the electrical system, the plumbing, the paint job, or just the water heater cover you will see every shortcut and half-assed decision you can imagine.
Apparently the water heater blanket had become the focus and frequent reminder, for me at least, of everything that needs repaired only because the last repair was so shoddy.
Okay. I know I’m whining. I’ll stop soon; but only after I share these before-and-after photos of the water heater. In the before shot, you see a piece of fluff-lined plastic held in place with an extension cord tied around the water heater. Who thinks this is an effective installation?

The second picture shows what $20 at Home Depot and 45 minutes of cutting and taping can accomplish.

I feel better now, thanks. Now we are on to fix the leaky Studio roof. Want to guess why it is leaking?
