Permits
Categories: California House

There is a strange yellow glow that fills one corner of our living room when the sun shines through the front window.
One front window is obscured by all of the permits Carrie has pulled for our various projects. Yellow is the color of the building permits issued by the City of Pomona. Light shining through them casts a glow that feels like work. The yellow aura triggers with light what an alarm clock triggers with sound, that feeling of dread of impending work.

The first was permit is to replace the main run from the street to the house (see the article about how I am a Lucky Man). This recent emergency plumbing replacement of the main water line begat two more permits. Crawling under the house to connect the new water line to the old pipes highlighted a couple of challenges. The first is that there are a number of pinhole leaks in the old pipes. Those leaks along with the fact that we had already replaced the main line led us to decide we can no longer wait to replace all the old steel pipes with copper. The second challenge is the bare electrical wires under the house. Carrie realizes that having a metal pipe is one hand and a metal wrench in the other while dealing with leaks next to exposed electrical wires is not a good thing. So the next permit is to replace the wiring in the house. So this is another job that was already on the list that got bumped up in priority.

We also have a permit to replace the roofs of the Office, which is underway, and the house which will be next.
