Soft Breadsticks

Ingredients:

1 cup warm water
2 ½ teaspoons yeast
¼ cup oil
3 cups flour
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Add the yeast to the warm water and let it sit until frothy, about 8-10 minutes.

Add the oil to the water and whisk until it is sort of combined.

Put the flour, sugar and salt into the mixer bowl and stir to combine.

Add the yeast mixture and turn mixer on “1” for a minute or two. (Assumes a stand mixer with a dough hook.)

Increase mixer speed to “2” for about 5 minutes.

Note: A few factors, such as heat, humidity, the oil you used, can affect the consistency of the dough, so it is okay to add a little extra water or flour as needed to get the dough right. You should be able to “window-pane” the dough (stretch a small portion so thin you can nearly see through it) to confirm it is ready.

Roll the dough out on a floured surface until it is at least 12’ by 12’ and as rectangular as you can make it.

Cut the dough into ¾’ wide strips. I use a pizza cutter.

Give each strip a twist and put it on a greased cookie sheet.

Cover with plastic wrap and let rest for about 20 minutes.

Bake at 375 degrees for about 14 minutes or until the edges start to brown.

Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic salt.
