Our Stable Pole Barn Project
Categories: Michigan

This was our stable.  Three walls, with the fourth side open to the weather. We think the previous owners had goats at some point.  There is no livestock in our future.

Our long term plan is to make our barn more of a workshop and less of a storage building.  But to do that, we needed someplace else to store the tractor, its accessories, and all our big lawn equipment.   We realized that if we enclosed the stable, it would give us just the space we needed to be both secure and protected from the weather.

We closed off the loft and added framing for a ridge cap, then constructed and installed six gate-like doors, one for each of the four big openings at the front, plus two smaller pedestrian doors at each end.

The last of the six doors was hung yesterday. Today the final latch hardware was installed.

This is the new stable.

And here is a 4 minute video of each step in the construction.
