The side yard space that we enclosed with our new fence got an exciting finishing touch last week. Between the trees and bushes drinking all the water and the shade they produce, the ground is not well suited for grass. Here is the “before” shot so you can see the dirt.
We had planned to put down a layer of decorative mulch, but Home Depot only sells it in 1.5 cu’ bags. As we’d need 140 bags, we hadn’t acted. Luckily we found a local wholesaler who sold us “Landscapers’ Mulch” in bulk and for a lot less money. No bags, just a dump truck that unloaded in our driveway.
I filled the wheelbarrow and Carrie wheeled the mulch, dumped it and spread it around. We were able to fill the 16’ by 47’ area about 4” thick with fresh mulch. It will keep the dust down and will help the ground hold moisture. It doesn’t need to be mowed and will make weeding easy. Plus it looks cool.
