Hawks and falcons visit our backyard regularly. Usually they come to drink from and bathe in the birdbath. Today Carrie watched one having lunch.
We have a couple of birdfeeders and bird baths that attract the usual suspects: wrens, finches, jays, doves, starlings, etc. When the hawks or falcons arrive, everyone else leaves and stays very quiet. It appears a dove didn’t leave soon enough.
This falcon (or perhaps a young hawk) caught a dove and carried it to the top of the power pole to eat. If you look closely you can see the dove’s feathers floating away as the falcon prepares its meal.
