Carrie and I go to the Los Angeles County Fair<\/a> nearly every year and this was no exception.<\/p>\n

It is a tradition to visit the cows, chickens, horses (Budweiser Clydesdales), goats, sheep, and pigs (Carrie petted one that must have weighed 400 pounds).<\/p>\n

And we always visit the crafts exhibits to see which quilts and stained glass won ribbons.<\/p>\n

At the garden section, we compared our backyard to the Fair\u2019s plantings and made notes about what we\u2019ll do differently next year.<\/p>\n

We wandered through some of the pavilions to see what was on sale and to listen to the hawkers hawking.\u00a0 Didn\u2019t succumb.<\/p>\n

The real challenge for us was deciding what deep-fried Fair food to try.\u00a0 The choices ran from traditional, through the traditional-for-the-Fair, to the strange.<\/p>\n

Should we have deep-fried zucchini, deep-fried Snickers, deep-fried jalapeno, deep-fried frogs\u2019 legs, deep-fried apples, deep-fried Kool-Aid, deep-fried Klondike Bar, deep-fried Krispy Kreme sandwich, or…?<\/p>\n

We were walking along the midway amidst the carnival booths displaying all of their stuffed characters as prizes, discussing the relative merits of sweet vs. savory deep-fried treats when Carrie spotted hanging in a nearby booth, the Minions from \u201cDespicable Me\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwinkies!\u201d she shouted.\u00a0 \u201cLet\u2019s have deep-fried Twinkies!\u201d\u00a0 The choice was made.\u00a0 We headed straight for Chicken Charlie\u2019s <\/a>and ordered deep-fried Twinkies with chocolate coating.<\/p>\n
